Bikes

An automobile which has two wheels and is proppeled by either by an IC engine or Electric motor is know as a bike.

There are two types of bikes:
  1. IC engine
  2. Electric motor bike
IC ENGINE

IC engine bikes are those which are propelled by an internal combustion engine which uses gasoline or petrol as the main source of fuel. These bikes are present from a long time and are known to give good performance and descent mileage. All theses IC engine bikes are catergorized based on their CC that is cubic centimeter. CC is nothing but the capacity of the combustion chamber which detonates the air fuel mixture. So if the CC is more than the power is also more and the torque is also more. But the mileage drops as the CC increases. Because more cc would take more air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber so utilization of fuel is excess for a small range of distance.
So to calculate CC

0.7845*bore*bore*stroke*no of cylinder { make sure you convert the bore and stroke value into cm.}
So thats what is about CC.

Next comes the types of IC engine bikes
  1. Carburettor based bikes
  2. Fuel injection based bikes

In carburettor bikes the air and fuel is mixture is sent to the combustion chamber and the mixture is ignited by a spark plug.

The mixture is of three types
  1. Lean where the air is excess and fuel is less.
  2. Stoichiometric mixture is a ideal mixture where the air and fuel both is of equal quantity.
  3. Rich mixture uses excess fuel and less amount of air.
All these types of mixture can be tuned in the carburettor by the adjustment of jeting and these adjustments can be made as per the requirements of the user.  For performance one can always tune to rich mixture but the down side is mileage would drop also the spark plug would become rich and should be changed from time to time.

Fuel injector bikes

In these kind of bikes there will not be any carburettor rather there would be a fuel injector which would  inject fuel at the end of the compression stroke. In these types of vehicle the efficiency would slightly be more when compared to the carburettor. The injection of the fuel would be decided by the timing valve which would be controlled by the ECU.

Electric bikes

The bikes which are proppled by a electric motor and uses electric current as a fuel to move is known as a electric bike. Electric motorbikes are as fast gives alot of torque and the range is very much impressive. These electric motorbikes cost more in the inital but the usage and the maintenance cost is very less.

Electric Motor setup with a DC motor and the controller

Cut OFF convertor used for high level braking

These electric motorbikes have a electric motor which is goverened by a controller. A controller is nothing but an ECU of non fossil fuel bikes. The controller regulates the power supply to the motor depending on the response of the throttle. Now in these electric bikes there is something called high level braking and this high level braking protects the electric motor from damage, because when the vehicle is in motion and suddenly it is made to retard by applying the brakes the vehicle tyres would slow down and stop but the electric motor would still be running and when the tyre is stopped but motor is running then in that case it would produce sparks and the windings would burn. So in order to avoid this disadvantage we use a cut off convertor which would stop the supply of current when the brakes are applied there by saving the motor coils from getting burnt. So a cut off convertor is like a safety device and engages and disengages the electric power supply when the brakes are applied.

So electric bikes have very less friction as the mechnical moving parts is very less when compared to an IC engine and the performance is also very hig with great mileage or in other words range.

So Bikes are always the same no matter if it has a engine or a electric motor they give the same thrill and joy and gets us from point A to B quicker than a car. More developement and progress are being made every day on this segmet.
